OUTREACH COUNSELLING SERVICES IN CARRICK-ON-SHANNON BEGIN
We are delighted to announce that we are now providing an Outreach Counselling Service in Carrick- on -Shannon, Co. Leitrim. Our face to face counselling service is provided by a fully trained Rape Crisis Counsellor who has been involved in our service since 2004 and is available to survivors of sexual violence and their supporters such as family and friends.

To provide Outreach Services throughout Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan has long been an unrealised part of our Strategic Plan. This 6 month pilot project to provide face to face counselling services in Carrick is the first step towards providing  accessible counselling and support throughout our catchment area.

The service is being provided for a few hours a week during the pilot of 6 months but we hope to expand and develop it further. For further information or to  make an appointment please ring 1800750780 or 071 91 71188

ANNUAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE REPORT
The 11th Annual Research Conference of the Research and Education Foundation at Sligo General Hospital took place on Friday November 26th 2010.  Representing an exemplary mix of clinical and scientific excellence, the programme celebrated internationally renowned researchers and those embarking on their careers.  Oral presentations of eight research projects undertaken in the Northwest region were complemented by 47 local and national poster presentations.  While the focus of the conference was on medical research, a number of social science studies exploring the areas of sexual health, foster care, suicide and bereavement were presented.  A key outcome of the SRCC study, entitled Addressing the Needs of Young People: A Broader view of Sexual Health, has been to raise awareness of sexual violence and the need to strengthen interagency collaboration in order to better address the sexual health needs of young people.  The conference was therefore an important opportunity to showcase the studys findings to individuals working in healthcare both locally and nationally. To download a copy of the conference poster  please click here
