All Sligo Rape Crisis Center services are confidential and free

All Sligo Rape Crisis Center services are confidential and free As a survivor of sexual violence you may be experiencing difficulties in your life resulting from the impact of the trauma you have experienced. For further information on trauma please go to what are the effects of sexual violence. Feelings of shame and self-blame, guilt, anger, fear or all the different symptoms of post-traumatic stress, like depression, experiencing suicidal tendencies, grief, anxieties, lack of trust, problems with eating, tendencies to self-harm and general low self-esteem can occur after experiences of sexual violence. We believe that an experience of sexual violence is not a life sentence that recovery is possible and that survivors should be able to access the support they deserve.

We believe no matter what the circumstances, sexual violence is never the survivor's fault the blame always lies with the perpetrator.

Since 1996 members of The Centre have been here to support survivors with counselling around the emotional impact of their experience providing a caring, safe, confidential space where people can express how they feel and be heard and supported. We support women and men over 18 and a limited number young people over the age of 14. For more information on how we work with young people please go to services provided. Our counsellors are specifically trained to deal with sexual violence issues.
